All 50 min tours have the choice of going to Lockerbie Square or doing our Canal Tour.
All 25 min tours boast views of Indy's most popular landmarks, art exhibits, and statues.
What time do the carriages start?
In season (March to December), we start at 6pm Monday through Friday and 4pm on Saturday and Sunday. During football season and certain holidays, those times can change. Any firework displays, street closings, or Monument Circle closings can also effect our hours.
Weather and demand determine how late we operate.Reservations booked online will show hours to book.
Where do carriages pick up and drop off at?
All tours pick up and drop off at monument circle. The stand location for GPS is 1 Monument Circle. Our carriage stand is located just to the inside of Monument Circle out from Hilbert Circle Theatre, Starbucks, and Rocket Fizz Candy Store. Any other pick up or drop off is a custom ride and must be booked by telephone.
May we have beverages on the carriage?
You may bring a beverage if it is in a closed container, such as a cup with a lid. No bottles or glass containers are allowed. You may have an alcoholic beverage as well. However, we do not serve or sell any type of beverages.
Do you supply blankets?
We keep blankets in the carriage when the weather is cold. However, you may wish to bring your own.
Are the carriages heated?
Carriages are not heated. However, in inclement weather, we enclose them with clear panels that do not obstruct your view of the city.
Are the carriages and horses safe to tour with?
Our horses are highly trained, and our drivers are professional livestock handlers. Our routes are chosen for their safety first. Our carriages are routinely inspected and our maintenance program is excellent.
I noticed that at Christmas you only offer the 25 min tour. What if we want a longer tour?
During the Christmas season, it can get pretty cold even with blankets. This is why we offer the 25 min tour. However, if you are determined to take a 50 min tour, you can book a carriage back to back.
What if my reservation needs to be cancelled at the last minute?
If your reservation is cancelled, we do not offer refunds. After booking a reservation you will recieve an email with a telephone number that can be called while carriages are in town. (Click refund policy tab on main page for more info). Do not reply to email appointment reminders.
What if I have a reservation and my carriage is late?
We do our best to navigate traffic with the welfare of our horses in mind. There are times when we will be late. Some situations are out of our control, due to streets being closed last minute, and events letting out downtown. If we are late, you will still recieve your full 25 min carriage tour. We would prefer that you take a walk-up carriage without a reservation if you are on a tight schedule. Thank you.
Are same day reservations available?
These may be available by calling 317-631-4169. However, once our carriages are at their stands, our reservation book is closed. You still have the option for walk-up rides on a first come first serve basis.
When is your office open?
Blue Ribbon does not have an office, but we do have phone hours in season March 1st to Dec 31st. These are Monday through Friday from 1pm to 4pm and Saturdays from 10 am to 2pm. You can book online up to 24 hours in advance. Off season Jan 1st to March 15th only messages concerning weddings or special events will be returned.
Is your pricing per couple, per carriage, or...?
Our prices are per carriage, and our carriages hold up to 6 people. Children under 2 are not part of the count. However, if you wish to put an older child on a lap there will be an additional $5.00 per lap child with a limit of 2 per carriage.
I am at monument circle and Blue Ribbon Carriages is not here. Why?
PERIODICALLY THE CITY CLOSES OUR CARRIAGE STANDS WITHOUT NOTICE! IF YOU HAVE A RESERVATION WE WILL ATTEMPT TO NOTIFY YOU BY EMAIL, TEXT, OR PHONE CALL FOR AN ALTERNATE PICK UP LOCATION. PLEASE MAKE SURE WE HAVE A WAY TO CONTACT YOU PRIOR TO RIDE TIME. THANK YOU.
How do I book a pick up or drop off that is NOT on Monument Circle? (what is a custom ride)?
A custom ride is any pick up or drop off from any location other than monument circle. Custom rides are not offered from Thanksgiving until Jan 1st. You must call 317-631-4169 for custom quotes. However, we do not guarantee we will be able to fulfill your request. Also, our custom ride carriages can run late. This is often due to street closings by IPD, which occur without notice. If being on time is of importance, we recommend booking one of our standard tours.
How do I book a special event, wedding, parade, bonfire, the Big Blue Wagon, or other on location events? What is a special event?
Call our main line, and leave a message with your name, number, day and date of event, and our special event coordinator will call you. A special event is any request for a carriage outside of our normal operational hours or a carriage needed at any location outside the mile square of downtown Indianapolis.
How is payment accepted?
To book in advance, either via phone or our website, payment comes out of a credit card at booking. On our carriages, our drivers take both cash and credit card.
Is it customary to tip our driver?
Yes, our prices do not include tip. A customary tip is around 18-20%. Some special packages will include the driver gratuity..this will be stated clearly in the book now section. Please read carefully to see it this is included.
I have a reservation, but I cannot find my carriage, or I am having trouble meeting up with my carriage. What should I do?
Refer to your email for the special telephone number to call if you are having trouble meeting your carriage. Do not rely to email reminders.
When are tours available?
Daily weather permitting in season. We are generally on Monument Circle starting at 6pm Monday through Friday and at 4pm Saturday and Sunday.
Do your carriages light up?
All of our carriages light up and are generally lit at sunset. However, our Cinderella style carriage is the iconic glowing carriage that you see downtown at night.
I booked a reservation but wish to change my ride time. Is this possible?
Yes, by calling the office, we can change your ride time. However, you will be charged a $10 appointment change fee.
What if we have more than 6 people?
Carriages are meant to hold 6 average size adults. 2 children under the age of 3 may be allowed on laps at the drivers discretion, this is at an additional cost of $5.00 per child.
Perhaps you would be more comfortable in our Big Deluxe Blue Wagon? It is tons of fun and holds 6-8 adults or children. It has clear side panels for a great view, a cool sound system, and is ultra comfy with its soft padded bench seats. Ideal for large groups!
Can we book more than 1 carriage?
Yes, you can book more than one carriage as long as the time slots by reservation are open. However please note the carriages generally run on slightly different times, so expecting them to go on tour wagon-train style is highly unlikely.
What is a special event?
A special event is any event that occurs before or after our normal hours of operation, or any event outside the Mile Square of Downtown Indianapolis. This could be a wedding, an on-site party, parade, or any other event on location where we haul our horse and carriage/ wagon to your site.
